Use the Influence you accumulate within your faction to arrange peace, when a war no longer suits your interests and swing the deal by offering up your land, goods or gold. Bannerlord is set to advance the series meaningfully, in every aspect, offering players variety in the way they can approach the game and achieve their goals.

Bannerlord employs deep and powerful mechanics to combine battlefield prowess with political manoeuvring and diplomacy. To this end, each character is modelled and simulated in detail, using their relations with other characters as well as their respective personalities. The result is that characters have friends and rivals both inside and outside of their own kingdoms. Varied personality traits contribute to a character’s unique behaviour, causing them to be, for example, warlike and reckless, or cautious and calculated.

Each vassal within a kingdom has an influence value, which represents political sway within their faction. Characters may gain influence in a number of ways, including fighting enemies, capturing land and maintaining good relations with the queen or king. Influence decays steadily over time, thereby compelling vassals to work constantly for their faction, performing tasks to maintain their status.

Characters can spend their influence to impact the decisions of their faction leader, in order to suit their own ends. Successful characters accumulate more influence and are able to secure themselves more land, raising their status within a kingdom.

There is a powerful diplomatic system in place for players and NPCs who want to go beyond sheer brute force. The player can be the hero of the day, not only through battle but also by securing a difficult peace agreement. A dangerous enemy can sometimes become a dependable ally if he can be persuaded to switch sides in the middle of a war.

All of these gameplay features are strongly interconnected and affect each other within the sandbox. A player who masters the use of diplomacy, political clout and military force, and can employ each effectively, as the situation demands, will be unstoppable.
